The St. Catharine hot lunch program is an “offer and serve” government program, which means we offer and serve a balanced lunch each day to our students. The menu is published weekly in the Cougar Chronicle and below. In order to purchase a hot lunch, students must have a St. Catharine School “lunch token”, which are $2.60 each; milk tokens are 50¢ each.
*This Institution is an Equal Opportunity Provider.
NOTE 1: All token purchases must be made on Monday or Friday from 7:20 am until opening bell. Checks are accepted [payable to St. Catharine Cafeteria]. You may purchase as many tokens as you wish.
NOTE 2: Because of our participation in the government program, the Cafeteria Staff cannot and will not accept cash at lunch time. If a student does not wish to buy lunch, they may bring a packed lunch from home instead. They may bring a drink of their own or they can purchase a milk with a milk token (1% white or 1% chocolate).
If a student forgets or loses a packed lunch, lunch token, or milk token, they may borrow a lunch or milk token. The borrowed token will be noted and must be paid back as soon as possible. If a student borrows two times, they may not borrow again until that debt is paid back. NOTE: When paying back tokens, put them in an envelope and direct them to the cafeteria, not the teacher. Please put the child’s name on the envelope.
We have a free and reduced lunch program available. Each family will receive an application for these programs during the first week of school. If you are interested in the program, complete and return the application as soon as possible. If you were in the program during the last school year, you are entitled to tokens through September 30th.
Rationale: Part of our mission at St. Catharine of Siena School is to provide a Christ- centered education in an atmosphere, which provides optimal learning. It has been determined that a policy is needed to establish guidelines for the types of food used for snacks and classroom parties. What we know about proper nutrition, brain friendly fuel and student health, needs to be applied to school snacks as well.
This policy addresses: Student snacks and Birthday Treats
One snack period per day for grades K through 5
